چکیده
Recording lesions at the abattoir provides information for benchmarking pig health and welfare conditions. The study involved 79 batches of Italian heavy pigs, mainly tail-docked. aim was to identify prevalence anatomopathological relationships with carcass traits. scoring enzootic pneumonia-like (EP), chronic pleuritis (CP), dorso-caudal pleuritis, white spots on liver tail (TLs) carried out. Relationships among lesions, season slaughter, slaughtering age traits were tested using logistic regression. Enzootic observed 30.20% (±14.94) lungs an average score 0.91 (±0.77). CP 38.07% (±15.86) 0.83 (±0.34) A. pleuropneumoniae index (APPI) 0.71 (±0.39). pericarditis peritonitis 5.5% (±3.73) 1.09% (±0.64), respectively. White showed a 12.94% (±23.60) 0.02 (±0.04). TLs 34.08% (±11.21); 29.64% (±11.21) moderate damage, 4.44% (±5.02) severe not associated pulmonary or Dorso-caudal suggestive previous Actinobacillus infection, remained similar strongly higher lean meat percentage. Additional studies are necessary better understand this association. results that preventive measures against deemed reduce improve value.HighlightsCardiopulmonary indicative poor loss profit in pork chain could share common risk factors;Dorso-caudal pneumoniae traits;Tail lung Both can factors but have different aetiologies.

Effect of age at slaughter on carcass traits and meat quality of Italian heavy pigs.
Barrows and gilts (n = 128) from four breed crosses were used to investigate the effect of age at slaughter on carcass traits, proteolytic enzyme activity, and meat and fat quality. Pigs were blocked by breed cross into four blocks, and within blocks, one pen (eight barrows and eight gilts) was assigned randomly to be slaughtered at either 8 or 10 mo of age. Pigs were fed a corn-barley-soybean ...

Physiological indicators of stress and meat and carcass characteristics in tail bitten slaughter pigs
BACKGROUND Tail biting is a common welfare problem in pig production and in addition to being a sign of underlying welfare problems, tail biting reduces welfare in itself. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of tail biting on different pre and post mortem indicators of stress in slaughter pigs and on carcass and meat characteristics. A total of 12 tail bitten (TB) and 13 control (...

The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between tail lesions, cold carcass weight, and viscera condemnations in an Irish abattoir. The following data were collected at the evisceration point from every third pig slaughtered over 7 days: farm identification, sex, tail lesion score, viscera inspection outcome, and cold carcass weight. Tail lesions were scored according to a 5-point s...
